Master Services Gives Back

Activism and community involvement in East Tennessee

At Master Services, we are lucky to have a community that supports us. Thanks to their continued business, we have become the company we are today, and it’s because of our local neighbors that we always work hard to give back to them. We actively participate in several events that honor this relationship.

Labor of Love

Labor of Love

Two of our local residents, twin sisters Helen and Ellen Ashe, founded a non-profit organization called the Love Kitchen in 1984 to help serve the homeless, homebound, and unemployed. The Love Kitchen provides necessities like food and clothing to poverty stricken individuals in the Knoxville area. The two sisters devote most of their time and resources to running the Love Kitchen, often times neglecting their own homes in the process.

Secret Millionaire, an ABC reality show, involves disguised millionaires visiting impoverished communities and donating to local charities. When the program came to the Knoxville area, the entire community stepped up to the plate to offer assistance. Master Services enthusiastically partnered with WBIR and the Knoxville Home Builders Association to serve the Love Kitchen, creating Labor of Love.

Both Helen and Ellen’s homes were in disrepair, due to their commitment to the Love Kitchen requiring most of their time and energy. Their basements and crawl spaces had suffered from years of moisture damage, so Master Services provided their services free of charge to help give back to the women who had done so much for the Knoxville community.

We closed our whole office on a Friday, and every employee went to help at Helen and Ellen’s homes. While the women helped pack upstairs, the men were waterproofing the basements and repairing the foundations of both homes. While Master Services worked under the home, other construction companies remodeled the upstairs. The finished Labor of Love project gave both Helen and Ellen two beautiful new living spaces to share with their families.

Color Me Rad

We also participate in an annual 5K race called Color Me Rad, in which our employees run and raise money to benefit the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville. This year’s race is schedule for April 26th in Downtown Knoxville, and we have 10 employees entered and have raised $500 in donations.
