Foundation repair. It’s not the most glamorous of subjects, but it’s a necessary one if you have foundation problems in your home. How do you know if you have foundation problems? Check for these four common signs:
Why do these things happen?
Foundation walls usually move inward due to expansive soils and hydrostatic pressure on the walls from outside. Walls may also crack from foundation settlement, as well as from several other issues.
This is pretty self-explanatory. The soil under your home has compacted and has caused the foundation to sink with it, which in turn causes cracks in floors and walls. You may also notice your chimney leaning away from your home. The most common way to fix this is by installing foundation piers to stabilize your home.
Uneven floors are usually either caused by settlement sinking (see above) or foundation heaving. Heaving occurs when something pushes the foundation upward which is most likely caused by expanding soils.
These are once again most likely caused by a sinking settlement or expanding soils. For a sinking settlement, foundation piers are the best solution. For expanding soils, a wall anchor system may solve your problem.
